Helminthic Therapy Follow-Up

For I while I've been wondering what ever happened to the research that I read in Mental Floss magazine about which was being done by Dr. J. Weinstock. This therapy uses Helminthic worms introduced into the gut which give the immune system something else to attack, rather than your digestive tract. The research sounded promising and I was hoping that it did not drop off of the medical world's radar. I tracked down Dr. Weinstock's contact information and wrote him a (regular mail) letter asking about the current status of his research.

Recently, he kindly replied to me by email:
Dear ******,

I am sorry to hear about your Crohn's disease. Thank you for writing. The agent that we developed is working its way through both the US and European food and drug administrations. The agent is made by one of the pharmaceutical companies making the agent for the various clinical studies under way or planned for the near future. Ovamed is this company. Their web site could contain more information. I wish I could help you more. Best wishes to you and your family.

Joel Weinstock
So there you have it, you can find out more about this research at:, they even have a forum although it's kind of empty.

Here is another website with information about this therapy:

  1. I couldn't wait for the drug companies to get on board, so I went straight to the source. I've had hookworms since September to help with my Crohn's. I'm planning a trip to Canada soon to get another dose. If you want more info on helminthic therapy, I know of a few places that have a ton.
    Good luck!

  2. You can get this in Canada? That's where I am! Would you mind sharing some info about where you were able to find it, and whether it has helped you?

  3. go to
and read the latest posts or ask questions there. A lot of people on the forum have tried helminthic therapy and will help you out.

  4. There is a company that will provide you with the Helminth Therapy, but it is only available as an experimental therapy, it's not approved by the FDA or the European version of it. Their website is I'm considering trying it out too! Best of luck.

  5. Also check out - it has a wealth of information on the subject, especially in the "Studies" and "Links" sections

  6. Hi Luke,

I am also from Canada, couldn`t find ahelminthic therapy here........ please can you give me some information where to get it.
